Via Duomo

Via Duomo, today the main artery of the Old City of Taranto, is undoubtedly one of the oldest streets in the City of the Two Seas.

The archaeological investigations that involved the area showed, on several occasions, the presence of traces of much older roads below the current floor.

In fact, already in Greek times, the layout of what we now call “Via Duomo” was characterized by a main road axis that almost completely cut the acropolis of the city. In subsequent eras, the street didn’t lose its importance, becoming a commercial center and a place overlooking the most important palaces of the Tarantine nobility.
